1. The Two Treatises of Admiral Del Bono

To understand what is happening to the veterans inside the retirement home—and why receptionistTerrytells an honest Coral during his interview,“The Admiral appreciates men who can hold their ground”—players only need to examine the two books resting in the reception area.

Book #01 • Upper Shelf

ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY

Subtitle: The Path to Naval Excellence
Author: Admiral Del Bono

“In this foundational treatise, Admiral Del Bono defines the pillars upon which true naval power rests.Absolute Authorityis not a simple tactics manual, but a total doctrine that elevates duty to an art form and discipline to the only possible religion. Through a ruthless analysis of hierarchy and individual sacrifice, Del Bono charts the course to transform a group of men into a single, lethal extension of the ship itself. For the Admiral, excellence is not a goal, but a necessary condition: the only shield against the chaos that reigns beyond the horizon.”

Book #02 • Lower Shelf

BEYOND CONSENT

Subtitle: Exploring Radical Methods
Author: Admiral Del Bono

“InBeyond Consent, Admiral Del Bono challenges established norms of naval psychiatry, exploring radical methods for veteran care within his controversial clinic. This work details alternative approaches and ethical dilemmas. A thought-provoking study for the field.”

2. From Naval Doctrine to Psychiatric Nightmare

Read side by side, these two texts reveal the horrific core ofAs Duty Demands:

  • Men as an Extension of the Hull:InAbsolute Authority, Del Bono argues that sailors must cease to be individuals and instead become“a single, lethal extension of the ship itself.”Inside his retirement home, that metaphor has been made literal through psychiatric conditioning: the residents no longer perceive walls, windows, or hallways—they perceive bulkheads, ballast tanks, and popping rivets.
  • Erasing Individual Will (“Beyond Consent”):Traditional trauma therapy seeks to restore a veteran’s autonomy and separate the past war from the present peace. Del Bono’s radical psychiatry does the exact opposite: it bypasses patient consent to fuse their traumatic memories into a permanent, shared watch aboard a phantom vessel that never surfaces.

3. Archival Document #03: The VHS Broadcast (“Sons of the Sea”)

After Coral experiences his first disorienting blackout in the corridor—encountering the note slipped under the door (“watch your back!”), the twitching old woman beneath the swinging chandelier, and Terry’s sudden amnesia at the front desk—an impossible phone call arrives from Coral’s sick mother on a flip-phone. Eight seconds after hanging up, a heavy switch echoes through the building, plunging the reception intoblood-red submarine emergency lighting.

When Coral locates the VHS cassette and slides it into the VCR, the television flickers to life with Admiral Del Bono’s recruitment broadcast:

📼 VHS TRANSCRIPT • DEL BONO HOME PROMOTIONAL BROADCAST

“Sons of the sea, hear me.

You braved the depths when the world was in flames, serving your country with courage and dedication; you are the pride of a nation that will not abandon you.

I… will not abandon you!

In our state-of-the-art facility, we help veterans bring order to their memories, so that the storms of the past finally stop churning the present. Here, at the Del Bono Home, we do not simply offer a bed. We offer a safe mooring.

Do not let your sacrifices sink into the indifference of city streets. Return to base. Return where someone still understands the weight of your worth.”

4. “Return to Base”: How the Admiral Preys on Forgotten Veterans

What makes Admiral Del Bono a compelling psychological horror antagonist is that his propaganda speaks directly to a real wound:“the indifference of city streets.”Veterans returning home from war often feel alienated in a civilian world that neither understands nor remembers their sacrifice. By promising“a safe mooring”and commanding them to“Return to base,”Del Bono lures traumatized sailors back under his absolute chain of command—where the only way to stop the storms of the past is to never leave the ship at all.

🌊 Finale Next: What Happens When the VHS Tape Ends?

The moment Admiral Del Bono finishes saying“Return to base,”the building’s generator dies—and12 chilling inscriptionsbleed across the walls. ReadPart 4 of The 1992 Del Bono Filesto decode the voices of the trapped crew.
